Dimension
Intent
Intent is the aim. Before a word is chosen, something has already decided what this moment is supposed to achieve, and most of the time nobody has decided it on purpose.
When it breaks
Everything downstream is aimed at nothing. You wanted to sound competent, to be liked, to get through it. No amount of polish fixes aim, and a well delivered sentence pointed nowhere still arrives nowhere.
Sounds like I do not know what I was trying to get out of that meeting.
Usually mistaken for Confidence. People who cannot name what they want look nervous, and are usually told to be more assertive, which makes an aimless sentence louder.
The sub-dimensions
Intent is not one thing. It is 5, and a prescription aimed at the wrong one inside the right dimension fails in a way that is very hard to see, because the dimension was correct.
Aim
What this specific moment is for.
You enter with a subject rather than an outcome. The talk is about the project. It is not for anything.

The ask
The thing you actually want, said plainly.
The reason arrives first and the request last, by which point the room has already decided. Or the request never arrives at all and you leave hoping it was implied.

Deciding
Choosing before you speak rather than while you speak.
You start the sentence to find out what you think. The first half is a search and the second half is an apology for the first half.

Refusal
Being able to want the moment to end in a no.
A no is a legitimate intent and it is the one most people cannot hold. Agreement becomes the default aim, and the cost arrives later.

Retrieval
Reaching what you know at the moment you need it.
The knowledge is there and nothing comes. Almost always this is aim rather than memory: with nothing to aim at, there is no cue to retrieve against.

What corrects it
Reading the sub-dimension you recognise is the beginning of it and not the work. What corrects a break is practice aimed at that break, in an order, at a dose, checked against what actually happens in a room. That sequence is the Intent Gym, and how the sequence is run is the five steps.
Which of the 5 is yours is not something this page can tell you, and neither can you. It is named at The Diagnosis, along with which of the four gaps it is, and everything after reads from that one result.
