Cut what is not carrying meaning, and keep what is.

The shape

Why that order

Compression is not using fewer words. It is raising the ratio of meaning to words. Anything that contributes to understanding stays, whatever its length.

A worked example

Instead ofSo basically what happened was that we had initially planned to complete the testing by Wednesday, but because the team had some other things that came up and there was also an issue with the environment.

Testing is delayed by two days because of an environment issue.

You have it right when

Shorter, with the important meaning intact.

What usually goes wrong

Removing necessary context to sound concise. Conciseness without sufficient meaning is just incompleteness, and it costs a second conversation.

A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
