Clarity
Message expansion
Fill out an underdeveloped message until the listener can understand or act.
The problem it addresses
The opposite fault from over explaining: the conclusion arrives with nothing under it, and the listener is left asking why, how, and what now.
The shape
- Core idea
- Required context
- Support
- Example or implication
- Complete message
A worked example
The project is delayed by one week because the vendor has not completed the API integration. We expect the final build on Monday.
You have it right when
Enough information to understand the situation without asking.
What usually goes wrong
Treating expansion as permission to ramble. It fills the missing information, not all available information.
A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
