Intent and preparation
Relevance
Say what matters to the listener rather than everything you know.
The gapCommunication that is technically correct and irrelevant.
When to use it
Whenever you know far more about the subject than the listener needs.
The steps
- Choose the topic.
- Write everything you could possibly say.
- Name the listener.
- Ask: why should this person care?
- Select the three pieces most relevant to them.
- Remove everything that does not serve their current need.
- Deliver the shortened version.
- Ask: did they get the value quickly?
You know it worked when
You can tell the difference between important to me and relevant to them.
What else it works, and why
- Message
- Relevance is expressed through what is selected and how it is organised.
- Connection
- Relevance is decided by what matters to them, not by what you think important.
Which drill is yours, in what order and at what dose, is not something a page can tell you. That is what a Discovery Call is for.
