Interaction and connection
Seen and heard
Make the other person experience being understood.
The gapListening, and then turning the conversation towards yourself or your solution.
When to use it
Weekly, with a partner.
What you need
A partner with something real to explain.
The steps
- Partner explains an issue for two minutes.
- Listen without interrupting.
- Identify their main point, their concern, what they want to happen, and what they are feeling.
- Summarise it back.
- Ask: did I understand you correctly?
- Let them correct you.
- Respond only once the understanding is confirmed.
You know it worked when
They can say that you understood both the content and the concern.
What else it works, and why
- Intent
- Understanding them is temporarily the objective.
- Message
- You have to capture what they said accurately.
- Presence
- Genuine attention requires you to stay mentally available.
Which drill is yours, in what order and at what dose, is not something a page can tell you. That is what a Discovery Call is for.
