Message and thinking
Message expansion
Develop an idea when you have said too little to be understood.
The gapAnswers so compressed the listener has to guess what you meant.
When to use it
When people keep asking follow up questions you thought you had answered.
The steps
- State the core idea.
- Ask: why?
- Explain the reason.
- Ask: what does this mean?
- Explain the implication.
- Add one relevant example.
- Stop.
You know it worked when
You expand only where expansion improves understanding.
What else it works, and why
- Intent
- Expansion should serve the objective rather than become elaboration.
- Connection
- You decide what more will actually help this listener.
Which drill is yours, in what order and at what dose, is not something a page can tell you. That is what a Discovery Call is for.
