Work on my communication

The frameworks

Feedback in practice

Asking for feedback

Ask in a way that produces something usable.

Asking somebody to tell you how that went.

Connection · Application framework · No. 138

The problem it addresses

How did I do produces fine. A question with no target gets an answer with no content.

The shape

  1. Context
  2. Specific behaviour
  3. Question
  4. Listen
  5. Clarify

A worked example

After today's presentation, I would like feedback specifically on how clearly I communicated the main recommendation. What was clear, and where did I lose you?

You have it right when

You get something you can act on rather than reassurance.

Mostly serves Connection, and reaches into Intent.

A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
