Presence
State, intent, behaviour
See how an internal state is producing the behaviour other people are reacting to.
The shape
- State
- Intent
- Behaviour
Why that order
Behaviour is usually downstream. Correcting the behaviour alone, while the state and the intent stay as they are, is why the same fault returns under pressure.
A worked example
- State
- Anxiety.
- Intent
- I want to appear competent.
- Behaviour
- Speaking too fast and over explaining.
- Intervention
- Change the state, clarify the intent, then choose the observable behaviour.
Practise it
Knowing the shape is about ten minutes of work. Running it while somebody senior is looking at you is a different thing, and that is what these are for.
Mostly serves Presence, and reaches into Intent.
A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
