When to use it

Every time you are given feedback.

What you need

Somebody willing to observe twice.

The steps

  1. Perform the communication.
  2. Receive the feedback.
  3. Do not defend or explain.
  4. Restate the feedback to confirm you have it.
  5. Identify the specific behaviour involved.
  6. Decide the adjustment.
  7. Perform it again.
  8. Receive a second observation.
  9. Compare the two performances.

You know it worked when

The feedback produces an observable change, not a nod.

What else it works, and why

Intent
Feedback is read against the outcome you intended.
Message
It may expose what was communicated.
Delivery
It may identify how it was expressed.
Presence
It may reveal state related behaviour.
Connection
It uses another person's experience to recalibrate you.

Which drill is yours, in what order and at what dose, is not something a page can tell you. That is what a Discovery Call is for.
