Storytelling
Experience, action, result
Demonstrate what you can do through evidence rather than assertion.
The shape
- Experience
- What I did
- Result
Why that order
It stops achievement communication from becoming a list of responsibilities, which describes a job rather than a person.
A worked example
Our customer escalation process was creating delays. I redesigned the routing and introduced ownership rules. Average response time fell from eight hours to three.
What usually goes wrong
Describing only the responsibility: I managed the escalation process. The shape needs an action and a result.
Used in
Where this shape does its work in a real situation.
A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
