Tell me about yourself

Introduce yourself with relevance rather than narrating a biography.

The opening question of a professional interview.

The shape

  1. Current identity
  2. Relevant experience
  3. Evidence
  4. Future direction

Why that order

It answers the question actually being asked: who are you professionally, what evidence is there, and why are you relevant to this role.

A worked example

I am currently a senior systems engineer leading an eight member support team. Over the last five years I have moved from individual technical delivery into coordinating team operations and stakeholder communication. One of my strongest contributions was improving incident response time by redesigning our escalation process. I am now looking to move into a people management role where I can combine the technical experience with team leadership.

What usually goes wrong

Starting at university. The chronology is not the question.

Mostly serves Message, and reaches into Intent and Presence.

A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
