Presentation
Hook, context, message, proof, close
Build a presentation that earns attention before it spends any.
The shape
- Hook
- Context
- Message
- Proof
- Close
Why that order
Attention has to come before context, context makes the message intelligible, proof makes it credible, and the close gives the audience the one thing to carry out of the room.
A worked example
- Hook
- We lose nearly two days a week to a process we could automate.
- Context
- How the current process works.
- Message
- Automation removes the largest bottleneck.
- Proof
- The data, and two worked examples.
- Close
- I recommend we automate it in Q3.
Practise it
Knowing the shape is about ten minutes of work. Running it while somebody senior is looking at you is a different thing, and that is what these are for.
Mostly serves Message, and reaches into Delivery and Connection.
A framework tells you what shape the answer takes. It cannot tell you whether shape is what you are short of, and for most people it is not. Which one is yours, and whether a framework is the right instrument at all, is what a Discovery Call is for.
